Creating A Harmonious Hospitality Environment For Resorts and Hotels in The Maldives

Ibrahim Nizam
fmr. Minister of State for Climate Change, Environment & Energy

Whether referred to as “Luxury Travel”, “Island Tourism”, Community-based Tourism”, or “Local Tourism.”, let’s continue with the Maldives brand in mind.
Since welcoming our first guest in 1972, the tourism industry in the Maldives has evolved, improved, and re-emerged. We have established our islands as role models and exemplary destinations for holidaymakers worldwide. Our achievements, progress in sustainable tourism, and expansion from a few simple huts to luxurious grand villas and exclusive private islands have been well-received by our guests.
Since our services are widespread across the Maldives in all the atolls, we now feel the need to promote our luxury resorts, accommodations and small hotels on the islands in a co-existing manner through a proper holistic approach.
When considering a holistic approach to our marketing strategy, we focus on UHNW or HNW clients seeking privacy and premium services, honeymooners and couples celebrating special occasions or anniversaries, and families and groups looking for group accommodations. Among others enjoying the local island hotels are budget-conscious or economy travelers, adventurers, digital nomads, and guests on extended stays.
In addition to the current digital and data-driven marketing mediums, we should adopt a strategy that accommodates high-end luxury resorts and medium to low-cost hotels and accommodations. We can implement collaborative and cross-promotional plans, enabling guests to experience luxury and community-based tourism.
The hotels and accommodations on the local islands should consider enhancing their services with value-based pricing rather than cost-based pricing. This approach will result in better yields for the owners of the island hotels.
In summary, luxury resorts and island hotels in the Maldives can co-exist harmoniously by showcasing their unique strengths and working together through various marketing channels. This approach will not only cater to a wide range of travelers but also enhance the overall appeal of the Maldives as a diverse and inclusive holiday destination.
