Michail Toanoglou
Professor Michail Toanoglou is a seasoned expert in tourism and hospitality, with extensive experience in both the private and public sectors. He has served as a General Manager and Consultant in Destination Sustainable Management and Marketing for regional organizations.
With over 25 years of management experience in 4- and 5-star hotels in Greece, he has brought competitive added value to numerous tourism and hospitality development projects. His academic and research background spans more than 15 years of teaching experience in higher education, in Greece, South Korea and France, focusing on sustainable tourism development, destination management, and branding.
Since 2018, Professor Toanoglou has been a Certified Sustainability Expert through the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) and has contributed to several sustainability projects in the Asia-Pacific region. He holds top professional certifications, including Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA) and Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) from the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA).
He has made significant consulting contributions to both the private and public sectors, implementing strategic development projects for regional public authorities and hotel companies. Professor Toanoglou is also a founding member of the Greek NGO “EPOT – Tourism Think Tank” and serves as the Secretary for the European region of the World Rural Tourism Conference (WRTC).
He is the Director of the Centre for Sustainable Tourism & Crisis Management at the Athens Institute for Education and Research (ATINER). With notable publications on sustainability and carrying capacity, he actively contributes to international tourism and hospitality conferences, maintaining strong ties with the global academic community.
In August 2023, Professor Toanoglou assumed the role of Professor and Academic Director of the International Master in Hospitality Management (IMHI) at ESSEC Business School.
