The Institute of Tourism has announced a new strategic partnership with the International Centre for Responsible Tourism global to deliver a free three-part lecture series led by Emeritus Professor Harold Goodwin, one of the world’s foremost authorities on responsible tourism.
Designed exclusively for the Institute of Tourism, the series will address the most urgent challenges facing the sector today, including The Principles of Responsible Tourism, Rebalancing Tourism and Addressing Overtourism, and Creating Economic Benefit. The programme will provide practical insight and actionable strategies to support tourism professionals in delivering more sustainable and inclusive outcomes. Attendees will listen to a keynote 20-minute lecture and then have the opportunity to ask questions of Harold Goodwin.
The Institute of Tourism is a professional body committed to advancing standards across the tourism sector through education, professional development, and thought leadership. It provides a platform for practitioners, policymakers, and academics to engage with the issues shaping the future of tourism. Reza Soltani, president of the Institute of Tourism, said: “Tourism is one of the most powerful forces for economic and social development, but only when it is managed responsibly. This partnership and lecture series are about equipping our members with the knowledge and leadership needed to ensure tourism delivers real value—for destinations, for communities, and for the industry as a whole.”
ICRT global is a non-profit dedicated to sharing best practice in responsible tourism and runs online training courses and the free to enter Responsible Tourism Awards. Professor Harold Goodwin said: “Tourism has the potential to be a powerful force for good, but only if it is actively managed to deliver benefits for local communities and minimise negative impacts. This series is about sharing practical approaches and encouraging informed action.”
Commenting on the importance of collaboration across the sector, Bulut Bağcı, President of the World Tourism Forum Institute said: “Tourism is a major driver of economic growth and employment, but its success depends on how well it is managed with local communities at its core. Partnering with non-profits such as ICRT global are essential to shaping a more sustainable future for the industry through knowledge-sharing and global collaboration.”
