Who is Jing XU?

Mr. Xu Jing is a former director of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and currently an independent tourism specialist.

Xu Jing began his career in tourism at the China National Tourism Administration where he was in charge of international relations. He joined the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in 1992 as Officer to the Regional Representation for Asia and the Pacific. Over the years, his areas of responsibilities included the preparation and the organisation of most UNWTO’s technical and institutional activities in Asia and the Pacific. He coordinated and supervised numerous UNWTO technical cooperation projects and sectorial support missions on subjects of contemporary interest to the tourism community of Asian countries. He served as Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific of UNWTO from Dec 2003 to Jan 2020. In addition to his regional responsibilities, he had worked as UNWTO’s Executive Secretary of the General Assembly and the Executive Council from Jan 2014 to Dec 2017.

Xu Jing was instrumental in setting up a regional tourism research platform for UNWTO, i.e. the UNWTO/PATA Forum on Tourism Trends and Outlook which is an annual research event held in Guilin since 2007. Xu Jing coordinated and supervised a wide range of UNWTO technical studies and publications at the Asia-Pacific level. Furthermore, he was responsible for coordinating most UNWTO tourism master plan projects in China at provincial level. These provinces included Sichuan, Yunnan, Shandong, Guizhou, Hainan, Anhui and Heilongjiang. He was instrumental in the development of the China Best Tourism City scheme.



他2008年入选中国全国工商联旅游商会改革开放30年“影响中国酒店100人”名单。2010年获韩国首尔市长颁发的2010首尔观光大奖,表彰对亚太旅游做出的特别贡献。 2012年获西班牙首届环球亚洲颁发的年度旅游精英奖。香港理工大学酒店与旅游业管理学院2015年度开学日特别演讲人。2020年1月获韩国文化体育观光部部长亚太旅游特别表彰匾。
