Who is Lyonpo Namgyal Dorji?

Honourable Minister Lyonpo Namgyal Dorji, is minister of Industry, Commerce and Employment of Bhutan. 

NAMGYAL DORJI represents the Kabji-Talo Constituency as a Member of Parliament in the National Assembly of Bhutan. On 28 January 2024, His Majesty the King of Bhutan appointed him as the Minister for the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Employment (MoICE) in the Royal Government of Bhutan.
Namgyal served as a Foreign Service Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for over 12 years, where his final assignment was at the Permanent Mission of Bhutan to the United Nations in New York. In 2022, driven by his deep commitment to the service of the King, Country and People (the three principal entities of the Bhutanese statehood collectively referred to as the Tsawa Sum), Namgyal chose to contest for a seat in the National Assembly with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the country’s oldest party to represent his home constituency.
He received the prestigious Australia Awards to pursue his Master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from the Australian National University. Additionally, he holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Administration from the Royal Institute of Management and a B.A. (English) Honours from the University of Delhi.
Apart from his distinguished professional and academic achievements, Namgyal has demonstrated leadership in community service from early on in his life to many years abroad as an international student and career diplomat. His entry into Bhutan’s young democracy reflects his commitment to the tradition of wise and dynamic leadership in the country embodied by the successive Kings, whose service to the people is globally acclaimed.
When not immersed into his diverse professional and communal commitments, Namgyal enjoys reading, long hikes and spending quality time with his family and three children.
