Ibrahim Nizam brings with him the accumulated strengths and in-depth knowledge of Maldives tourism and associated industries, acquired over a career spanning more than thirty-five years.

Nizam joined the tourism industry in 1982, when the industry itself was in its infancy. Over the years, he has witnessed and contributed to the evolution of the industry into what it is today. Nizam has viewed the tourism industry from various perspectives, working in four different resorts and advancing from a junior to a senior level. Since 2001, Nizam has collaborated with many resorts in the country, first as the Marketing Director of Island Tours and later as the Managing Director and Partner at the luxury tour operator, The Grand Holidays, and the FDI consulting firm, The Grand Associates. Through this journey, he has gained a deep understanding of resort operations and, more importantly, the management that drives the tourism industry.

During his long career, Nizam has developed a well-established network of friends and colleagues, including resort owners, resort operators, tour operators, government decision-makers, and other key stakeholders in the industry. He has successfully navigated different phases in his career and the evolving stages of the industry, earning a strong reputation for the excellent rapport he maintains with industry leaders.

Nizam has witnessed the industry’s growth from a few resorts in Male’ Atoll to a nationwide network of several international and exclusive brands. In his view, the industry can grow further with significant foreign investment, financial input, and expertise in hotel management.

Nizam also served as the Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Environment and Energy from 2013 to 2018. Currently, he holds the position of Minister of State at the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment & Energy.
