Budi Shantika

Budi Shantika is a junior researcher and lecturer at the Faculty of Tourism, University of National Education (Undiknas University), Bali. With a strong passion for the tourism sector, her research primarily focuses on risk management in tourism and the promotion of gender equality within the industry.
Budi began her academic journey at Udayana University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism Destinations in 2018. This foundational education provided her with a deep understanding of tourism dynamics and destination management. Recognizing the need for further expertise, she pursued a Master’s Degree in Applied Tourism and International Hospitality Management, a joint program between Bali State Polytechnic and the University of Angers, France, which she completed in 2023. Her international academic experience broadened her perspectives and equipped her with a diverse skill set to tackle complex challenges in the tourism and hospitality industries.
Between 2018 and 2023, Budi actively engaged in the professional tourism and hospitality sector, gaining invaluable hands-on experience in operational practices, strategic management, guest relations, and service excellence. Her industry exposure not only strengthened her practical knowledge but also deepened her commitment to sustainable tourism practices and women’s empowerment. Inspired by these experiences, she became an advocate for community-based tourism projects that aim to benefit local communities and promote equitable development.
In late 2023, driven by a passion for education and a desire to contribute to academia, Budi transitioned into lecturing at Undiknas University. She is committed to bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications, ensuring her students gain practical insights into the tourism industry. Her teaching methodology incorporates case studies from her professional background, offering students a well-rounded understanding of tourism operations. She strongly emphasizes sustainable tourism practices and gender equality, preparing future tourism professionals to become innovative and socially responsible leaders.
Beyond the classroom, Budi remains actively involved in research projects exploring the impact of tourism on local communities and the role of gender dynamics in the industry. Her work advocates for inclusive and sustainable tourism development, supporting policies and practices that create equitable opportunities for all stakeholders.
